Ukraine’s prime minister and officials will travel to Washington next week for spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and Central Bank Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko are expected to meet with, among others, finance officials from G7 countries, and attend a Thursday’s round table in Ukraine organized by the World Bank, sources added. .

The event will be the first time for Ukrainian officials to meet in person with a large number of finance officials from advanced economies since Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February.

The collapse from the conflict in Ukraine is expected to dominate the meetings of senior officials from the member countries of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fundas well as the G7 and the G20, next week, the International Monetary Fund its global growth forecasts will soon change due to the war.

Thursday’s meeting will be more of a round table than the donors ’conference, although the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank has opened separate accounts to process and deliver donations, and new commitments are due to be announced next week.

It will also give officials the opportunity to discuss the destruction of Ukraine and the economic consequences of the war, as well as the continued functioning of Ukraine’s banking and financial sector.
