The bodies of a mother, Shantelle Murphy, and her two children, Isabella, 6, and Mason, 3, were found after their home burned down on April 10. Mrs. Murphy, still excited, describes a mother and loving woman.

For Shantelle Murphy’s mother Tammi St. Jean, the news of the deaths of her daughter and two grandchildren was a nightmare that she would never wake up to. This cannot be truehis first thought was when he received the call from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Manitoba, from his home in Calgary, a day after the killings.

On April 10, firefighters responded to a fire in Portage la Prairie and found three people dead inside the home.

Trevis McLeod was charged with second degree murder and arson. According to Tammi St. Jean, he is the partner of his son and father of two children.

Tammi St. remembers. Jean treated her daughter as a cheerful and caring person. From the moment she was born, she woke up smiling and slept smiling.

She will do everything for her children, she is a great mother.

Grandma rememberedShantelle always brags about how Isabella speaks non -stop and is really good at her words. Isabella is bright and full of energy, she is very curioushe pointed out.

The last time he saw his daughter and grandchildren was in June 2020, when he helped her move from Manitoba to London, Ontario.

Tammi St. remembers. Jean was Mason, then only 2 years old, who wanted to run all the time. Her grandson, whom she describes as curious and full of energy, struggles to stay in her car seat.

In December 2020, contact with his son stopped when he returned to live with his family in Manitoba.

I don’t know what happened, that’s what makes my heart fatexplained by Tammi St. Jean.

Shantelle Murphy first met Trevis McLeod in 2015 in Calgary through friends, and although her family saw no signs of domestic abuse, they suspected something was wrong.

I first met him when I visited him in his apartment [de Calgary]and I didn’t like it much at the timesaid Shantelle’s mother.

Shantelle’s cousin Tyler Hendrey regularly visited the couple. He was more categorical. For her, her cousin’s habit changed when she started dating Trevis McLeod.

I keep telling him: you know, you have to leave him. You change … he changed you in a short time.

According to the victim’s family, none of them saw any signs of domestic violence. Tammi St. Jean, however, mentioned that she has not had a chance to see her daughter or talk to her often on the phone in the past two years, because she lost contact with her when she returned to Manitoba.

I saw no indication or sign that he was abusing her. I knew they had problems, but I saw nothing, no physical violencehe assured.

On April 15, Winnipeg Police Service officers arrested Trevis McLeod without incident after searching for him for three days.

For the family, it’s comforting. Tammi St. said. Jean that he plans to attend the trial and hopes that justice will be served and that he will not hurt more people.
