Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, announced Tuesday that ask the state Congress for a law to end special protections which allowed the Walt Disney World complex for decades to function as a self -governed body.

DeSantis said at a press conference that he asked the state Parliament that during the special session that will begin today to define a new electoral map, it is also addressing the elimination of Reedy Creek Improvement Districtcreated in 1967 and on which sits the entertainment giant that almost allows it to rule on its own.

“Yes, they will consider the congressional map, but they will also consider the termination of all special districts adopted in Florida before 1968 and this includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District,” the governor announced at a conference. sa The Villages, north of Orlando.

This special district covers approximately 100 square kilometers and sits between the counties of Osceola and Orange, in the middle of the state, and allows Walt Disney World has its own police and fire departmentin another aspect.

Today’s announcement marks a new chapter in the battle DeSantis is maintaining at Disney after criticism the company made for enacting a controversial law known as “Don’t Say Gay” (“Don’t Say Gay”), which prohibits Floridian teachers up to second grade from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms.

The law, approved by Parliament and signed in March by the governor, got Disney to point out in a statement that the “should never be approved” standard and at the same time apologized to his employees for remaining silent and chose to campaign against the law “behind the curtains.”

Shortly before the enactment of the law, Disney CEO Bob Chapekannounced that the company had canceled its large political donations to Florida, which included the governor himself, and that it would raise its funds in favor of groups resisting similar measures in other states.

The Florida governor recognized the receipt and even got to that point Disney’s statement is “dishonest” and “cross the line”. And on Tuesday, in response, he released this new letter to remove the autonomy of the districts where Disney parks are located, in a bid that now has an open end.
