The dramatic event took place on Tuesday night, when Venkata Krishnamurthy He lost control of the car he was driving when he likely made a wrong turn and fell with his vehicle into a ditch in the city of Sunrise, in Broward County, north of Miami.
Aden Perrywho brought his family’s dog for a walk around the area that night, saw the accident and jumped into the water to try to help Krishnamurthy out of the car, but they both drowned.
Perry jumped into the water and tried to rescue the driver of the vehicle.
Media footage shows rescuers pulling one of the victims out of the canal and giving him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
According to a report from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office, Krishnamurthy drowned and Perry, unable to swim, died of “neck trauma” where drowning contributed, channel 6 South Florida took over.
County Police said speed was not a factor in the crash, but rather the inexperience of the teenager behind the wheel.
The vehicle fell into the ditch and the driver drowned.
The two bodies were taken to a hospital, where doctors could do nothing to save their lives.
Krishnamurthy was a student at Coral Springs High School and Perry was a junior at Western High School, where grief counselors these days provide psychological support to overly upset classmates and even to teachers.
