Just 10 days after a violent day in which eleven people were tortured, killed and abandoned, Mexico returned on Friday to experience another day of death and horror. Eight men and a woman were killed in two separate incidents in the state of Michoacán, in the west of the country, where it was recorded a bloody battle between drug cartels.

Much like the carbon copy of what happened on April 12 in the state of Guerrero, where five bodies were found in the trunk of a car, this Friday four people found in the trunk of a vehicle which completely burned on the state highway connecting the municipalities of Cojumatlán and Sahuayo, near the Jalisco state border.

The corpses, all men, showed signs of torture, possible bullet wounds and severe burns, so until this Saturday remained unknown.

The second multiple crimes took place in the municipality of Zamora, where alleged murderers abandoned the bodies of four men, in Libramiento Norte and a dirty road.

All of the victims were tortured and shot to death, though three of them were beheaded. The four bodies have not been identified.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) maintains as the main hypothesis in both cases the possible retaliation between the drug gangs, where special Ministerial Police groups have been deployed in the areas to continue investigations.

The third crime also took place in Zamora, where a woman was murdered at a food stall, in the neighborhood of Lázaro Cárdenas, by fleeing criminals.

In this case, the police were alerted about a woman being injured, but when emergency services arrived, they found out that the victim was already dead due to the severe injuries sustained.

The National Public Security System (SNSP) has qualified Zamora as one of the municipalities most violent in Mexicoso the Mexican Army sent 400 soldiers last Wednesday to try to reduce the wave of violence.

While the state of Michoacán reported 756 homicides in the first quarter this year, the highest in decades.
