U2 to commemorate “Achtung Baby” in Las Vegas, but without drummer Larry Mullen

U2 will commemorate the most of 30 years after the publication of Achtung Baby (1991), one of his most emblematic albums, with a residency concert next autumn in Las Vegas (USA) in which, for the first time, Larry Mullen will not be on drums.

The Irish band has confirmed through its official website the premiere of this “show” entitled “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At The Sphere”, which will also serve as a presentation of the spectacular sphere-shaped space in which it will be set, the Sphere MSG.

This proposal will serve not only to celebrate the successes of the album Achtung Baby AS Onebut also to remember the iconic “ZOO TV” tour (a huge parody of TV, reality shows and TV life) that followed its release, which will allow you to enjoy U2 live again for the first time since they came off the scene in December 2019.

Because Larry Mullen won’t be there

In that period, especially after the very long break due to the coronavirus pandemic, Larry Mullen underwent medical checks which highlighted the need for surgery in order to continue playing with the group beyond the current 61 years.

“I have many parts of my body that fall: knees, elbows, neck… During the covid-19, when we weren’t playing, I had the opportunity to be seen by the doctors and I saw that there was some damage, so I would take some time to heal,” the drummer revealed in an interview a few months ago.

That’s why its iconic spot behind the dishes will be occupied by Dutch musician Bram van den Bergband member Krezip, as reported by U2 on their website.

Up until now, the Irish band had always commented that they would never tour if the whole quartet didn’t. But the circumstances were stronger in this case.

Some info on where the shows are going to be

“The beauty of Sphere is not only the cutting-edge technology that will make it unique, with the most advanced audio system in the world, but also its ability to create an immersive experience in real and imagined landscapes.” having told the group about the reasons why it was used, it led to accepting the proposal for a residency, i.e. a long series of concerts in the same place”.

“In short -they continue-, it is a canvas of incomparable size and resolution and a unique opportunity. We would be mad not to accept the invitation”.

U2’s return to the stage comes just months after the March 17 release of their new album Songs Of Surrender, which will feature 40 of their most famous songs “re-imagined and re-recorded”.

The name of the disc coincides in part with the book of memories Surrender. 40 songs, one storyreleased last year by Bono, leader of the group, which led him to make a small tour of theaters in various cities such as Madrid at the end of last year.

The book is both an extensive biography (obviously authorized) of the band and of Bono himself, who does not fail to tell not only his facet as a musician, but also to provide details of his family life and his work as a political activist .
