The human bones discovered by Madelinot fishermen in March 2021 were not associated with a criminal event for which the investigation was being conducted, the Sûreté du Québec confirmed.
For the staff of High Expectations, human jaw bone fishing will undoubtedly remain one hell of an anecdote. In March 2021, fishermen discovered them in the Gulf of St. Louis. Lawrence when they were fishing for clams about a kilometer from Grosse-Île.
A spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec, Claude Doiron, recalled that the bone was found stuck in fishing gear.
The bone was sent to the Forensic Science and Forensic Laboratory in Montreal to determine the origin of the jawbone. Upon examination, it was confirmed that the jaw bone did indeed come from human bones, but it belonged to someone who lived several hundred years ago.
Sergeant Claude Doiron confirmed that the file was closed.
