The bodies of at least 20 people in civilian armor were scattered on a street in Bucha, a city northwest of kyiv recovered by Ukrainian forces after being held by Russian troops, who began their departure.

The fighting and bombing left a apocalyptic scenewith large holes in residential buildings and broken down vehicles in various parts of the city, AFP reporters reported.

Ukrainian officials said they still are they do not know who the victims were or how they died.

“This territory is not under Ukrainian control“When they were killed, an official of the kyiv region told the AFP, asking not to be identified.

“We just entered Bucha … We still don’t know what happened here,” he added.Civilians may have been killed in a bombing or they may have been killed by Russian soldiers. The security forces will take care of finding it, “he added.

Sixteen of the 20 corpses were on or next to a street sidewalk. Three were in the middle of the road and one in the courtyard of a house. Ukrainian passport fell near the corpse handcuffed.

All the dead were in civilian clothes: coats, jackets or sweaters, jeans or jogging pants and sneakers or boots. Two were lying next to bicycles and another near an abandoned vehicle. Some are bent over and others are turned away.

The faces of the deceased have a waxy appearancewhich may indicate that they have been in the area for several days.

Bucha and the nearby town of Irpin have been the scene of some of the the fiercest battle since Russia launched its offensive against Ukraine on February 24.

These two cities fought but paid a very high price. most of its inhabitants fled.

Ukrainian forces only gained access to Bucha a day ago, after nearly a month of Russian occupation, and they are slowly moving through its streets for fear of the mines left by Putin’s troops.

According to local mayor Anatoly Fedoruk, 280 people need to be buried “common pit” because it was impossible to do so in cemeteries, still exposed to Russian bombing.

A silver car then full of ammunition and several bodies were found near a burning truck.

A dozen ambulances headed to the scene on Saturday. According to Ukrainian authorities, they have been evacuating the bodies from the region for several days.
