Flames of revenge, a Stephen King who does not light

fit in Stephen King Obviously this is not suitable for all audiences or screenwriters. Master novels of terror and suspense are many times played, most of them, with psychological horror rather than a graphic — which they have, of course—. The sparkleby Stanley Kubrick, is a successful example, the carrie by Brian De Palma, another.

But there are some cases where getting or being based on the plot, or just staying with it, doesn’t mean the fear is transferred, and sometimes it’s not the themes that the author of item either grave of animals they come with stiffness or vitality on the movie screen. And it all ends like another little shit.

fire of revenge had the first version of the film in 1984. Directed by Mark L. Lester, Drew Barrymore was 8 years old and was shocked and just surprised himself with Steven Spielberg’s alien when he played Charlie, the son of a couple participated in a medical experiment that it developed telepathic capacity for them, and the little creature was pyrokinetic.

Charlie struggles and struggles to control that thing of igniting anything when he feels resentment or someone is bothering him. School bullying was a trigger for this preteen, and because of that incident, his parents came up with something they had already discussed: either they would teach him to use his power (which was intended). of mother, Sydney Lemmon, Isabelle in Fear of the Walking Dead) or they are overly protected and hidden (what the father, Zac Efron, likes).

And since the relationship with the father will be stronger than with the mother — and we won’t remember anything else — no matter how much they run away from the small town, the bad guys on duty, who are part of the Government, follow them.

An update to the current season made by screenwriter Scott Teems (Halloween Kills: The night is not over) from using a cell phone to changing the gender of the villain here, no longer villain (Captain Hollister who was Martin Sheen is now Captain Hollister -Gloria Reuben-).

potholes, many potholes

But if fire of revenge It has many pitfalls and unconvincing or unconvincing resolutions. We don’t know if Teems, director Keith Thomas, or the production, which saw the final cut, didn’t like it, and asked to continue shooting.

The ending is not only cheap but incomprehensible.

The visual effects are as expected, the problem is they don’t contribute much more than that: they’re like collateral effects in a story followed by some interest at first, but the attention then starts to fade. and almost disappear in a few minutes. before it ends.

What a character. Charlie got angry and set fire to it. Even father Zac Efron was not saved. Photo IPU

Among the supporting cast are familiar faces, though it’s hard to forget the murder of George C. Scott from the ’84 film. Zac Efron suffers, and many. His eyes bled, probably because of reading the dialogue given to him. As for Ryan Kiera Armstong (he was Antonia then Black Widowwhen he was little) there was little to predict here a good future for him, unless his parents or agents chose better scripts.
