The Director General of Customs (DGA) changed some specific standards on shipments of goods purchased online abroad. In General Resolution 5190/2022, published in the Official Gazette, the Government seeks to prevent fraudulent maneuvers and abuses in the use of this tool in foreign trade.

The dependency of AFIP changed the regulations governing that channel used to enter goods into the country by plane, in such a way that the possibility of carrying out fraudulent maneuvers is restricted. The Resolution specified that the limit established for both recipients, set at US $ 3,000, 50 kilograms and 3 equal units of the same species, will govern each flight.

Currently, the regime of small personal shipments, without commercial purpose, establishes up to 5 of these orders per year, while for those with commercial purposes, there is no annual maximum.

“The rule aims to prevent fraudulent behaviors being identified of the DGA regarding some importers who violated the spirit of the regime. The maneuvers identified revolve around the purpose for which this tool was created, “AFIP detailed in a statement. He added:”The AFIP unit has made corresponding complaints in those cases where an action aimed at preventing or obstructing the proper exercise of the powers of the customs service in the control of the international transit of goods is observed ”.

Customs made the rule to prevent operators from splitting their orders on the same flight so that each shipment does not exceed US $ 3,000 and thus exceeds the maximum amount established. The changes are aimed at maintaining good practices foreign trade and protect operators who comply with the rules. The use of courier services has been growing in recent times in conjunction with the rise of electronic commerce. It is an agile tool that simplifies processes and where Customs optimizes controls.

The decision signed by the head of the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP), Mercedes Marcó del Pont, first make small changes to the import request form which must be completed by mail service providers (known as PSP or Courier) prior to each operation.
