Furor over Kangoo Jump, the sport with jumping boots that has become massive in suburban squares

Kangoo Jumps is the sport that grows in the northern part of Greater Buenos Aires. In San Martín, there is a representative, called Miriam, who promotes activity in the squares of the district.

As the sunset covers the city, people are starting to fill the green spaces and recreational centers for sports and physical exercise. A disruption that developed with the advent of pandemic and seemed to have no intention of disappearing. Nasa german square of the party of Buenos Aires San Martin, for example, spaces have previously been designated with colored pennants with the name of the gym or the club they represent. It’s like this, like more recreational proposals seems to be attracting new audiences.

From a distance you will see a signal waving and saying “Kangoo Jump”. Runners and pedestrians walking the area were not only deterred by the curiosity of the title which at first glance doesn’t detail anything — and which partly refers to the kangaroo jump in Spanish — but also by the adrenaline sent by sport and that leaves a latent vibe in place. Music at full volume, choreography to warm up and a cardiovascular aerobic to tone the muscles are the three spices included. the jumping discipline that is passionate in Greater Buenos Aires and sets the trend.

In the town of Villa Ballester nothing prevents him from stopping to observe this phenomenon growing without scales. As they practice outside, the activity is positioned as a “shopping” window that invites you to try out the classes without suppressing the desire of the spectators. “These are rebound boots that have little impact and don’t damage the joints,” said Miriam Tejeda, exercise instructor and manager of the sport’s establishment at North Zone.

The bounce boots needed to perform Kangoo Jumps. They weigh 2 kilos each and also help in the rehabilitation of the ankles, knees and hips.

Miriam is 54 years old and became interested in sports nine years ago, shortly after the death of her daughter Florencia Rossi, who died while awaiting a heart transplant. Before being known as the “queen of Plaza Alem” or as a referent of the discipline, because of the strength that shines in her classes, Tejeda was a rowing teacher. “I was competing and training every day. In the long run, it caused me a lot of stress because of my nerves, it gave me diabetes and I had to quit,” he said.

But with no intention of giving up, the neighbor from San Martín investigated possible options so as not to lose the pleasure of training. There when on a foreign television program, he saw a strange, but innovative method of exercise, which combined the qualities he was looking for: Kangoo jumped. “It completely changed my mind because it gives me fun and enjoyment. I started small, but I understood that I wanted to teach it so that it could be a part of my daily life.”

Miriam explained that although it is considered a relatively new sport, in its beginning, it aimed at the rehabilitation of the ankles, hips and knees as an alternative health mechanism. However, over time, boots began to be implemented for the world of fitness and they took an impressive force leading in a strange way. “Each boot weighs two kilos and is expensive because they come from another country, so I offer it to my students. They only bring socks. The good thing is that the joints don’t hurt, the body posture improves and the spine. “

Miriam values the first years over the boots as a memory that gave her experiences. “At first I was tired, I was very agitated and I went down a deep red, but eventually I understood that it made me happy,” he said. Currently, he trains in the courses of the company Universal Jump Argentina to be “host”, a root that will allow you to travel and be the face of activity in the rest of the world. “I have plans to go to Miami and participate in events.”

The regimen of classes Miriam offers at Plaza Alem, and also at a dance studio which she joined a few weeks ago, is from Monday to Friday, mostly on the afternoon shift. They have a duration of 60 minutes and are divided into three stages– First, there was a warm-up with music, then the heartbeat-raising part with techniques of jumping, bouncing, choreographed dancing and boxing, and finally, they put on their boots and prepared to stretch and relax for 10 minutes.

“I have a great relationship with my students. Not only am I their teacher at Kangoo Jumps, but I also help them develop good self-esteem, to be beautiful, healthy and energetic”, the teacher confessed. In addition, not a small fact is the Tejeda provides boots for those attending meetings. “Now on the market, a pair of boots is between $ 70,000 and $ 80,000. When used they can be $ 35,000.

Depending on the cost of the activity, Miriam argues that people can pay per class, where the price is close to $ 500, or otherwise, under the monthly subscription option, with the fee amounting to $ 3,500.

Although the teacher who fills the San Martín space with joy feels more comfortable in the gardens and trees of his city, the sport has become very popular. has already participated in birthday parties to liven up the meetings. “It started with a pandemic when I got dressed for a live class. Seeing my charisma, they called me to close an event in Patagonia where I went with my students. It was incredible, today is the fifteenth birthday and international shows are coming, ”he concludes excited about the future.
