The terrifying images of a construction worker while hangs from a crane in a building under construction in torontoCanada shocked and surprised thousands of social media users after the video went viral.

The video shows a man dangling from a rope under a huge block of building materials that is slowly being lowered. A witness who taped the moment cries out in desperation, “Oh my God, how the hell did this happen?”

The video has already reached more than 3 million views on TikTok and thousands of views on Instagram, only to collect as many thousands of responses when it was shared on Reddit.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the construction company responsible for the project confirmed that an “accident” occurred at the site on Tuesday. The worker’s handgot tangled in a cable after hooking on a load“.

“Fortunately, they lowered it safely to the counter and he was not seriously injured“PCL Constructors Canada Inc. stated in the statement.

The worker in the video is employed by Modern Niagara as an installer, responsible make sure material loads are properly secured before crane operators lift them, PCL said. The development site is located on the corner of Front Street West and Simcoe Street in the center.

Toronto police, firefighters, and paramedics told CBC News they had not received any calls relating to the incident.

The Ontario Ministry of Labor, Immigration, Education, and Skills confirmed it was notified of the incident on Tuesday and sent an investigator to the scene on Wednesday.

“It was reported that a worker got entangled in the cable of a crane after hooking up a load, was lifted from the podium and sustained injuries,” the ministry said in an email.

Meanwhile, the PCL added that it is “working with all corresponding authorities” and so on there is an investigation underway.

Previously, during the same work, a crane collapsed and fell on a nearby building. The previous incident, which occurred in July 2020, resulted in the evacuation of four buildings but fortunately there were no injuries.
