CF Montreal snatched the victory from the Red Bulls

For only the second time in its history, CF Montreal collected points on the New York Red Bulls ’field. The Bleu-blanc-noir snatched a 2-1 victory from them on Saturday in Harrison, New Jersey.

Romell Quioto scored a decisive goal in the 81st minute following a disastrous exit from goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, who lost the ball near the center circle. Quioto was able to run towards the opposing net and had no trouble pushing the object into an empty cage.

Impact recorded a second straight win and played a third straight game without losing, all on the road.

Rudy Camacho also scored another goal for the visitors in the second half. He responded to the victory of Omir Fernandez, the only Red Bulls player to beat Sebastian Breza, in the 14th minute.

It’s hard to play a good game against the Red Bulls because they put so much pressure. We saw the first 15 minutes, we were in trouble. A bit hard to get out, a bit higher on the ground. After being able to chain three or four passes, we pretty much found our game. Then, we did what had to be done.

A quote from Wilfried Nancy, head coach of CF Montreal

I think we played soccer well against the Red Bulls, I know it’s not easy against them. Of course, it could have been better, but now the players have shown their personality to get this victory. This is thanks to the stability they haveNancy added.

The fight marked the entry on the scene in 2022 by Sunusi Ibrahim, who was given the starting position to attack along with Kei Kamara. Ibrahim gave up in the 61st minute to Quioto, who missed the game against Cincinnati last week due to an episode related to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, midfielder Joaquin Torres is unavailable after suffering a training injury on Friday.

Finally, CF Montreal players will have the opportunity to step on the lawn at Saputo Stadium for the first time this season, next Saturday, when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The guard dives to save.

A painful start

With all of its losses accumulated in recent years at Red Bull Arena, the Montreal team could have developed an inferiority complex. And in the first half hour of the match, Wilfried Nancy’s staff did play as if it were complicated.

CF Montreal players lacked unity, multiplied bad passes and almost all of those 30 minutes were spent on their territory.

With a lack of control of the ball in the Montreal zone, the Red Bulls took control when Fernandez took a shot from about 20 meters that seemed to deviate from Camacho’s calf, before Breza was surprised.

Some 12 minutes later, when Breza was out of position after a failed attempt to block a cross, Kei Kamara saved two goals in consecutive shots from Aaron Long and Sean Nealis.

We don’t know if Chambers ’saves had anything to do with it, but CF Montreal played better in the final quarter an hour before the break.

In quick succession, Djordje Mihailovic and Kamal Miller had a good chance to score on the 33rd, then on the 35th, but Coronel intervened at every opportunity.

After a slow start in the second half, CF Montreal tied the game in the 71st minute thanks to the contribution of three defenders. Miller first sent the ball to Alistair Johnston, who was very close to him, and this one redirected it toward the center of the penalty area, where Camacho slipped through.

Clever, with a header, Camacho deflected the ball to the right of the Coronel. The object hit the inside of the pole before rolling behind the net.

Kamal and Ali were on the side. I was already ahead, so I decided to stay. That’s it, I did well. We scored. There are three defenders in action. This is colddescribed by Camacho.

Ten minutes later, Coronel made his incredible mistake that led to CF Montreal’s victory.
