Car sales: share the keys to avoid falling for online scams or on social networks

In recent times, especially after the coronavirus pandemic, online processes and digital commerce have accelerated. And today “buying online” is already on the agenda. But almost as fast scams have also grown and the automotive market is not exempt.

With this reality, Volkswagen Argentina has announced a new campaign that aims to warn users to prevent scams.

According to the German brand, messages and alerts have been detected several times through which financed sales are offered for the purchase of 0 km units or subscription to savings plans.

These messages generally include a request to deposit funds on behalf of or on behalf of Volkswagen Argentina, Autoahorro, the company that markets savings plans, or an official network dealership.

Keys not to be deceived

Volkswagen has decided to launch a “fraud prevention” campaign which is being implemented “to take care of all those users of the brand or savings plans, as well as people interested in buying branded vehicles,” according to a release.

This decision of the German brand is similar to those implemented in the past and which placed more emphasis on scams when signing up for a savings plan: Toyota has given its warnings, Renault has shared 10 tips to avoid falling into the trap, and Fiat has published its “commandments” when contracting this type of purchase.

From the company they remarked that its goal is to help users “recognize false alerts and fraudulent communications”. For this, it has elaborated a series of important points to recognize and not be victims of this type of deceptive operations.

  1. Volkswagen Argentina will never ask you to make cash payments, collections or home visits.
  2. Nor will it require making deposits to CBU numbers, nor to bank accounts for operations that are not specifically defined by Volkswagen Argentina or Autoahorro on their official web pages.
  3. Volkswagen recommends not to accept contacts or send an identity document, card data or bank account data via social networks, Whatsapp or similar.
