Mercedes-Benz C-Class: A premium classic that arrives electrified

The new generation of Mercedes C-Classthe best-selling medium luxury in the world, has just arrived in Argentina.

The novelties compared to the predecessor are many. The first, related to its mechanics, is that it now has a partial hybrid powertrain (mil-hybrid).

Even bigger in size, a lot more technological and more aesthetically similar to its bigger brothers E-Class and S-Class, from which it also inherits much of its arsenal of innovative equipment.

In our markets it will be marketed, at least for the moment, in the C-Class 300 AMG-Line (MHEV) version, the price of which is $ 104,000.

More efficient mechanics

The four-cylinder (M 254) debuts in the new C-Class 2.0 of 258 hp with a starter motor (ISG) integrated into the second generation 48 volt alternator, capable of further delivering up to 20 horsepower (15 kW) and 200 Nm of torque.

This gentle hybridization system, unlike a normal hybrid, such as a Toyota Prius, is that the electric motor is not responsible for moving the vehicle by itself, but it does so by supporting the heat engine.

The mechanical set is completed with the improved 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission to integrate the ISG function. Unlike the previous transmission, its weight has been reduced by 30% and its handling has been modified to achieve more efficient operation.

More space and technology

The new C-Class is longer (6.5cm) and wider (1cm) than its predecessor. It measures 4.75 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.44 meters high and has a 3 cm (2.86 meters) longer wheelbase. While the boot capacity remains the same: 455 liters.

This difference, which seems minimal, allows you to gain centimeters in the passenger compartment; what does that translate to larger space in both squares.

In the interior they attract attention two large screens floating design. One for the dashboard, 12.3 inches, and another vertical layout, located in the center console, to operate the infotainment and air conditioning systems (11.9 inches).

For its part, the MBUX multimedia system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) of the second generation has a greater ability to interact with occupants or respond to behaviors based on the data collected during the use of the vehicle.

Logically it has Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The novelty is that in this second generation it is not necessary to use a cable to connect the phone.

For its part, the hallmark of the AMG series is the addition of sports seats, front with electric adjustment and memory function; Newly designed multifunction sports steering wheel covered in nappa leather; dashboard, windshield and belt lines in ARTICO man-made leather with nappa effect; and ambient lighting system in 64 colors.

Referring to safetyhas the latest generation of driver assistance systems that provide additional and improved functions over its predecessor.

It has adaptive cruise control (Distronic) which, in addition to automatically maintaining the distance with the vehicle in front, is able to recognize a stationary car when the speed does not exceed 100 km / h (60 km / h in the previous model) ,

It also features Blind Spot Control and Active Parking Assist (Parktronic), which works by combining parking recognition, reversing camera and 12 sensors.
