General Motors Argentina reported that production of the Chevrolet Tracker will begin in July at its Alvear, Santa Fe industrial complex. The announcement was made after yesterday’s meeting in Los Angeles, USA, between the president Alberto Fernandez and the CEO of General Motors, Shilpan Amim.
The production of the Tracker in Argentina involves an investment by the American carmaker of 300 million dollars. In this way, the compact SUV that has come from Brazil to date becomes the according to GM model of domestic production.
The Tracker will share the production line with the Cruze, the nation’s best-selling mid-size offering in 4- and 5-door body styles, a 153-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo engine, and onboard Wi-Fi, among others. features.

The result of the AVA project
GM has been conditioning its Santa Fe plant for years to add this new model. The project, I note Value added car (AVA) was presented in 2017 by the then president of GM Mercosur Carlos Zarlenga.

The production of the new model represents an investment of 500 million, of which 300 million provided by GM.
It is worth clarifying that the total investment of the AVA Project is $ 500 millionof which 300 million provided by GM and the remaining 200 million by its network of suppliers.
More than 1,000 people participated in the tasks of the aforementioned investment in the Alvear plant, which incorporated manufacturing technology 4.0, and at least 80% of the production will go to export marketmainly Brazil and Colombia.
Among the works carried out there was a building extension by 50,000 sq m in the printing, bodywork and assembly plants, as well as in the acquisition and / or construction of molds, automatic devices, robots and production line capital goods.
With this, the installed production capacity of the factory will increase from 80,000 to 115,000 vehicles per year.
Tracker, a technological SUV
Currently, the Tracker range is imported from Brazil. It has four petrol versions, all with the 132-horsepower 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that is combined with the 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
Despite the great variety of models offered by the segment, the Tracker is characterized by the offer Native Wi-Fi on board for up to seven devices simultaneously and the OnStar system, a real-time, one-button safety, emergency, connectivity, navigation and diagnostic service.
In terms of safety, it includes stability control and 6 airbags for the entire range. The Premier version, the most equipped, adds an autonomous emergency brake, a collision warning, a blind spot radar and an automatic parking assistant, among other safety features.
Currently, prices for the Tracker range start at $ 3,986,900 (MT) and reach up to $ 6,236,900 (Premier).
