“Electric as you go” is a new long-term rental device with very low monthly payments but based on usage. Currently there are three models of the manufacturer.

Accelerating the conversion of the vehicle fleet to electric is a common goal. But it is still seen and hampered by the additional cost of these vehicles compared to thermal models.

While the government is considering a new national system, Stellantis (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel) announces “Electric as you go” to make electric cars more accessible. The idea of this rental device is to lower the entrance ticket (the famous first rental) and the monthly fees with a usage-based approach.

Hybrid offer

It is therefore a fairly hybrid offer. According to automatic journal, financing is based on a long-term rental (24 months). The first rent of 10,500 euros is reduced to 2,000 euros after deduction of the ecological bonus and the conversion bonus of 2,500 euros. A model that Dacia already applies in the rental of its small Spring city car.

Then the monthly fee is set at 150 euros, including a base of 500 kilometers for a cost per kilometer estimated at 7 euro cents (compared to 10 on average for a gasoline vehicle).

Three models involved in Opel and Peugeot

Three models are currently affected by this offer: the Peugeot e-208, the Opel Corsa-e and the Mokka-e small SUV. For the e-208, the classic monthly payment for a 48-month LOA (rental with option to purchase) is 290 euros. A price that therefore drops to 150 euros with “Electric as you go”.

But in addition to the limitation in kilometers, this offer is also subject to other criteria. You must have a vehicle eligible for the conversion bonus, either a pre-2011 diesel model or a pre-2006 gasoline model.

“This is not a social leasing offer, but a help for households to acquire a vehicle at a lower cost,” Tariel Beguiachvili, marketing manager of the electric mobility business unit at Stellantis, explains to our colleagues.

“This is a clientele that we do not necessarily capture with all the brands of the Stellantis group. We had to offer something else for these customers that we don’t see and it’s also a way to test this device”, he continues.

If this device finds its audience, Stellantis should open it up to other models, brands and markets. Eventually it could also include the collection in the rent. This offer also echoes the government’s plan to launch an electric car offer at a maximum of 100 euros per month, which was one of Emmanuel Macron’s campaign promises.
