New car sales fell further in July in France, by 7% compared to July 2021, with 107,547 registrations, the Automotive Platform, which represents manufacturers, announced on Monday. The market falls 15.31% in the first seven months of the year, with 879,527 registrations, while 2021 had already been historically low.
“We continue in exactly the same conditions, there are always delivery problems,” linked to the shortage of semiconductors and the setback in global logistics, explained François Roudier, from the PFA. Some manufacturers experienced a worse month of July than others: the leader Stellantis saw its sales fall by 9.91% with less than 36,000 vehicles sold, highlighting a sharp decline in its first brand, Peugeot.
Rebound in Renault sales
Stellantis sales fell 19.85% compared to the first seven months of 2021. Renault-Dacia saw its sales pick up 10.84% although it remains at a low level, at 24,800 units. The group fell 8.72% in the year. The Volkswagen group saw its sales fall by 25%, to 13,526 units, with sharp declines in the Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat brands, while Hyundai-Kia continues to grow with 8,223 copies sold (+9.77%).
Sales of commercial vehicles also continue to fall sharply, “a reflection of the morale of economic operators”, stresses François Roudier, with a drop of 24% in July and 24.35% in the first seven months of the year.
