The maintenance and repair of your vehicle are becoming more and more expensive. According to the sixth idGarages.com barometer presented by the parisian, the increase in the price of car parts has triggered garage bills. For example: the general revision has gone from 256 euros in 2021 to 265 euros this year, that is, 3.5% more. While changing the distribution kit costs an average of 556 euros, compared to 522 euros a year ago (+6.5%).
In recent months, global supply difficulties have pushed up part prices, automatically increasing costs for bodyshops. In detail, brake parts increased by 8.66% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year. Oil, for its part, rose 16.33%, clutch and transmission parts 4.95% and the engine 12.63%.
A finding that confirms the latest INSEE observations, which estimated an average increase in the prices of automotive parts and accessories by +5.2% between July 2022 and July 2021. Added to this is the cost of labor of work, also on the rise due to the shortage of personnel. In the end, the maintenance and repair of vehicles today costs 6.5% more than a year ago, according to the statistics institute.
Reduction of price gaps between regions
According to iDGarages.com, which analyzed the prices by region of three million quotes generated in the first quarter of 2022 in more than 4,300 workshops, it is in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes that car repairs are the most expensive. In this region, the price is on average 2% higher than the national level. It is also about 1% higher in Normandy, Brittany, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, New Aquitaine, Occitanie, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. By contrast, prices in the Grand Est and Pays de la Loire regions are 1% lower than the national average, and even 2% lower in Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France. But the most affordable region is Centre-Val-de-Loire, where garages are on average 3% cheaper than in the rest of the territory.
The price gap between regions continues to narrow despite everything:
“Six years ago, when we launched the barometer, repairers compared their prices with a competition area close to their shop. Today, they compare on a much larger and much easier dashboard. They adapt their price faster to be competitive and attract customers who also compare more prices (+30% of the price calculations VS 2019) and no longer hesitate to drive a few more kilometers to find the right workshop, an effect of the acceleration of the digitization of workshops after Covid”, he explains Jonathan Bloch, CEO of iDgarages.com.
This strong competition leads the mechanics not to fully pass on the increase in costs to the customer: “The workshops are making an enormous effort so that the motorist’s bill does not skyrocket. We see an increase of 5% in discounts compared to last year and efforts in the use of own-brand parts that also allow us to reduce the bill,” Fabien Borsa, marketing director of iDgarages, stresses on BFMTV.
