Sergio Massa has approved this year’s financial statements of the Official Post, with a transfer from the Treasury of $ 23,330 millions, mainly (95%) for current expenses.
However, even with this injection of fundsthe state-owned post and parcel company will not be able to make its total income (estimated at $ 74.520 million) exceed expenses ($ 77.288 million), and it will have a current account deficit of $ 2,767 million.
64% of business expenses go to salaries. According to the company budget approved with resolution 678/2022, they will be approximately 49.278 million dollars.
The post office had as of December last year 18,060 employees, Of these, 77% were workers and artisans, 14% were technical and professional assignments, 8% were administrative and the rest (25 people) were managers.
In its budget, the company estimates that by the end of 2022 those 18,060 will be reduced to 16,860 people, that is an adjustment of 6.6%. However, that goal is far from being achieved when one takes into account the report released this week by INDEC with employees of all state agencies. There he says it the Post Office had 18,090 employees in August, 30 more and not 1,200 less, as expected.
In addition to the income and expense spreadsheets, the Budget includes a brief description of the business goals for the year, albeit without much detail. There he admits that traditional postal activity is in decline and that there is no other alternative bet on the package.
This is why the company’s plan is to increase its participation in this area (traditional parcels and e-commerce) and grow with the logistics of medicines, an area in which it has gained experience after the distribution of the Covid vaccine.
Despite not having been very successful, the state-owned company will not abandon the “Correo Compras” project, its e-commerce platform. “In the year 2022, market share is expected to increase, with the aim of positioning it as one of the preferred marketplaces for consumers and SMEs / entrepreneurs nationwide,” he says.
Even if in that area Mercado Libre is the main competitor, the post office says it will rely on Marcos Galperin’s company and also the customs channel (overseas purchases) to increase the parcel category. There they also hope to implement an “automatic parcel sorter” to optimize time and costs and incorporate a fleet of electric vehicles and hand trucks for home distribution.
The mail has 2,800 points of sale in nearly 1,200 locations, making it the largest national interconnection chain. It competes with private sector companies such as Andreani, Oca, Unir, Ocasa, Urbano, Epsa, Fast Mail, Pro Mail and Sideco, among others.
