Héctor Maya is the National Director of Liquefied Gas of the Ministry of Energy led by Flavia Royón, responsible for the coordinate bottle procurement plans and official industry policiesand in the last few hours he has been involved in a controversy that could cause his departure.
Among various politicians and companies in the sector began to circulate a conversation, presumably written by the official, in which he reported the granting of “subsidies” and “favors” to gas splitting companies. However, in various sectors of the ruling coalition it emerged that the chat content is “fake” and that it is due to an interior of the different companies trying to discredit each other.
The truth is that, despite this version, there was in some official dispatches doubts about the continuity of the official, while in a series of companies they have already given up on this Thursday and in official sources consulted by this newspaper have remarked that “not yet”, an ambiguous signal that shows that not even its continuity is guaranteed. The Ministry of Energy did not comment on the matter.
“While it may be that this conversation may be false, his name was influenced,” added a field official who asked not to be named.
Maya – “Mayita” was nicknamed in her province – is son of Ettore Domingo Maya, historian former Peronist senator of Entre Ríos. Three months ago he was appointed to the position of substitute in the Secretariat for Energy promoted by Serge Massa when he joined the cabinet as Minister of Economy: Royón assumed the presidency previously held by Darío Martínez of Neuquén.
Maya is a lawyer and has held several audit positions with a number of projects in the public sector. Since March 2020 he has been in charge of User Protection of Enargas, the gas regulator which, until the arrival of Massa, was under the direction of Federico Bernal, his former controller. Bernal is now in charge of the Undersecretary for Hydrocarbons.

Maya’s alleged WhatsApp message went “viral,” meaning it started circulating among different levels of officials and companies in this segment, and involved a gas splitting company, with comments on grant allocations. “That chat is a monstrosity that was armed several weeks ago and that no longer had any meaning. It is an internal sector,” said an official source.
A former energy sector official from the previous administration called “los garraferos” – as cylinder gas fractionators are called – “very opaque”. “Several times we have tried to impose certain rules of the game, greater order and transparency, but they are very complicated”, commented a coach who “took care”, in the same words as him, of that sector.
“I don’t know Maya or her management. But I know the fractionators and nothing that comes from them is transparent. If that chat circulates through them, it’s hard for me to believe it,” details a technical specialist who was in the Cambiemos administration. .
