As planned, the Government has decided to hold a public hearing to enhance both the transport and distribution of the gas that is paid for in the bill.

As published by Enargas, the sector regulator, in the Official Gazette, the public hearing that will evaluate the provisional adjustment of the transmission and distribution tariffs will be held on 4 January at 9 am, virtually.

Resolution 523/2022 is part of the provisions of Decree 1020/20, through which the start of the renegotiation of the Integral Tariff Review (RTI) in force was determined, corresponding to the suppliers of the public natural gas transport and distribution service.

Last week, with decree 815/22, the renegotiation was extended by one year “until the entry into force of the new tariffs resulting from the definitive agreements of the RTI”, and Enargas was entrusted with “carrying out the necessary measures in order to promote an adjustment of the transition rate”.

This transitional tariff regime was deemed convenient and an “adequate solution” for users and concessionaires, to guarantee the provision of the gas transport and distribution service, “as well as the continuity and accessibility of these essential public services”.

In particular, the hearing will analyze the transitory adjustment of gas transport tariffs and of the public gas distribution service through networks.

The resolution allowed time until next Friday 16th for transport and distribution companies to present their proposals for tariff tables.

Likewise, the tariff regimes of the sub-zone of the ninth region (Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Ríos and Misiones) will be analyzed and, in particular, the tariff unification of the city of Paraná to the rest of the tariff zones will be discussed.

Is that the tender for the distribution of the ninth region was given in 1997, five years after the rest of the areas because, with the exception of Paraná, the region had no natural gas.

Since the situation has changed since then -Entre Ríos is now supplied by the same gas pipeline that goes to its capital-, the resolution deems it appropriate to analyze in the hearing “the updating of the respective sub-zones, considering the current scenario” by modifying, if necessary, the sub-zones tariffs and unifying Entre Ríos into a single tariff.

Enargas’ decision comes after the Entre Ríos government decided in November to revoke the contract with Gas Nea, the gas pipeline concessionaire in that province, due to “visible defaults” by the company.

The regulatory body will open registration for public hearing speakers next Tuesday, 20, through the official website of Enargas, and the deadline for registration will be extended until 30 December inclusive.
