The Minister of Health of the Nation, Carla Vizzottiled this Wednesday the extraordinary meeting of the National Commission for Food (CONAL) in which the use of Cannabis Sativa in food and its subsequent incorporation into the Argentine Food Code (CAA).
“The possibility of incorporating the use of cannabidiol in food into the Argentine food code is a huge opportunity for what is production, development and industry and of course also it’s a boost to the economy“, he said during the opening of the meeting held at the Kirchner Cultural Center.
In this sense, he indicated that regulating the incorporation of parts, derivatives and by-products of Cannabis Sativa in food “will allow promote the development of regional economies dedicated to this production sector and follow the national regulations in force”.
On the other hand, he also referred to the new regulation of Law 27.350“who expands rights and has an empathic look at what is a law for the medicinal use of cannabis and research”.
In this sense, he reflected on the fact that in recent years “we have worked with civil society, REPROCANN (Register of the Cannabis Program) has been created, the recycling of seeds has been carried out, which has made it possible to start buying legal seeds and quality for self-cultivation and more than 50 research projects have been approved in all provinces”.
In this framework, the head of the health portfolio has evaluated the sanction, in May of this year, of Law 27.669 which provides a regulatory framework for the development of the medical cannabis and industrial hemp industry, and stressed that “this law offers a much greater opportunity in relation to what production means”.
For his part, the secretary for quality in health, Alejandro Collia, stressed that “multiple actions have been carried out during this year that have led to the possibility of enriching food in the Argentine Republic”.
“There are few countries in the world that are regulating the possibility of incorporating cannabis into food, and Salud has been leading globally and regionally recognized actions,” the official concluded.
Finally, the Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, said that “the development of cannabis has provided job opportunities.” “It is essential for us to continue working in this supply chain, as we did with Inase (National Seed Institute) and Senasa (National Service for Health and Agri-Food Quality), in coordination with Health and the rest of the organizations that make up CONAL “, he stressed.
And he closed: “We have already delivered the first nine certificates of ownership of the cannabis varieties registered in Argentina, marking a historic milestone for this Government in support of the development of this new production”.
