Sergio Massa, on inflation: “The numbers are encouraging, but we must continue to work hard”

The economy minister made brief statements as part of a new announcement by price agreement. This time, the government has signed a consensus with national and international laboratories for the medicines It will be in effect for the next four months.

Massa referred to the November inflation data released hours earlier by INDEC. For the first time since February, the CPI recorded an increase of less than 5%.

“Inflation data reassures us that we have been on a de-inflationary path,” he has declared.

This morning, during the traditional press conference held by spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti, the official had announced that he expected less data than those recorded in recent months.

In this context, the minister recalled that when he took office four months ago, the CPI had registered a 7.5% increase. “We have gradually lowered inflation. It doesn’t satisfy us, we have to keep lowering it”, he has declared.

Agreement on the prices of medicines for four months

Massa announced a new pricing deal this Thursday, this time with the laboratory industry.

Through the Secretary of Commerce chaired by Matías Tombolini, it was agreed that the medicines be part of the program Fair prices Y they will not raise their prices more than 3.8% for four months.

“You may not have an outlet, to buy a garment, but medicines are essential,” he claimed in the brief press release after the meeting with the company representatives.

In turn, he specified that with the inclusion of medicines in the program “almost 40,000 products” are already included.

From this agreement, the drug price It can only increase up to 3.8% per month, taking into account the latest suggested retail price for November 2022.

It is also expected a trigger clause whereby, in the event that inflation exceeds 5%, the following month, companies can apply an increase up to one point below the INDEC measure.

Prescription medicines are included in this understanding with the industry and over-the-counter medicines are excluded.
