This week kicks off the traditional holiday shopping season with cuts in the main shopping streets of the city and a festival of sales and discounts in the shopping centres. It’s a two-day marathon, where people take the opportunity to top off the tree with gifts on the lowest possible budget. The companies, for their part, plan to enliven the days with shows and festivals suitable for the whole family.

The first round of the marathon is this Thursday, at 7.00pm and until after midnight. This is the first edition of “The Night of the Open Air Malls” that the government of Buenos Aires organizes and that will work in the 13 corridors and commercial arteries located in different districts of the capital. Businesses, especially SMEs, will have a great opportunity to attract new customers later this year.

The program includes appointments in the following locations: Villa del Parque (Cuenca, between Nazarre and Baigorria); Palermo (between Gurruchaga streets, Armenia, Costa Rica and El Salvador); Horse (Acoyte and Rivadavia); Monte Castro (Alvarez Jonte, between Lope de Vega and Alejandro Mohr); and Macelli (Juan Bautista Alberdi, between Pola and Martiniano Leguizamón).

The rest of the spots will be at Villa Devoto (Fernández de Enciso, Asunción, Gualeguaychú, New York); Parque de los Patricios (Av. Caseros and Av. Brasil- Av. Caseros, between Gral. Urquiza and Catamarca); and Liniers (Col. Ramón L. Falcón, from José León Suarez to Timoteo Gordillo).

Friday 23 comes a new version of the “Shopping Night”, organized by IRSA in its largest shopping centers on the same day and without interruption since 1994, that is 28 years ago. The activity runs from 20:00 to 4:00 and will be concentrated in 8 shopping centers: DOT Baires Shopping, Alto Palermo, Abasto Shopping, Patio Bullrich, Alcorta Shopping, Alto Avellaneda and Soleil Premium Outlet and Arcos District. The event includes live entertainment, promotions and discounts ranging mainly from 20% to 50% on clothing, toys, perfumery, footwear, electronics and books.

The mechanism is similar to that of previous years. The proposal of the adhering companies provides for discounts by time slots which could be summarized as follows: 20%, from 8pm to 10pm; 25% from 10pm to midnight; 30% from 24 to 2 in the morning; and 35%, 40% and 50% for the last shift: from 2 to 4 in the morning of the following day. Perfume shops and jewelers will offer an immutable 10% discount for the whole day.

Each shopping center, IRSA clarified, defines its own particularities. For example, Alto Avellaneda “will wear a Pool Party theme: music, parties, joy and entertainment will be combined with commercial offers”, they explain. In addition, people will receive a free red bag where they can store all their purchases. There will also be a Santa Claus from 16 to 24 in the food court, so that people can take a picture.
