The National Communications Authority (Enacom) has authorized service supply companies to apply increases up to 9.80% in February and up to 7.80% in April in telephone, internet and television services.
With resolution 2393/2022 published this Thursday in the Official Gazette, Enacom established that concessionaires can apply, starting from 1 February next year, an increase in the value of the prices to the public of any of their offers in the postpaid and mixed mode up to 9.80% and a new rise from 1 April up to 7.80%.
For increases, “the economic context” and the “difficulties faced by all the actors involvedsuppliers and public users”, as indicated in the introduction to the resolution.
The update is based on “the higher costs and the impact of the fluctuations of the main economic variables in the operations of the concessionaires”, such as, for example, the personnel, connectivity and scheduling costs; and infrastructure investments in foreign currency.
The entity had already authorized last October and in December increases of up to 19.8% and 9.8% respectively, in addition to two other increases of 9.5% applied to invoices from 1 May and 1 July.
The regulation indicated that any increase applied by the ICT or DTH (Satellite TV) Service Concessionaires that exceeds said limits It must be repaid to its users in the next invoice to be issued, with update and interest subject to the same interest rate applied to its customers for late payment.
In the event that the user chooses not to pay his invoice with surcharges higher than those authorized, the suppliers they will not be able to suspend the service nor calculate arrears on such invoices.
The changes that the companies make to their plans, prices and commercial conditions from this authorization to increase prices, on the other hand, must be communicated to Enacom at the time of its request.
The application of increases only suppliers who have joined will be admitted, so far, with the above retail price regulation.
What about the prepaid
For the prepaid mode, starting from February 1, maximum values have been set for the top-up of 50 megabits (MB) of mobile data per day equal to $43.40 (previously $39.50); second voice $0.66 ($0.60) and text messages $8.70 ($7.90); in all cases with taxes included.
As of April 1, 50MB top-up can be charged $46.80; the second by voice $0.72 and the SMS $9.40.
The caps on increases apply mainly to SMEs, cooperatives and small businesses, as some of the large companies have resorted to protections and precautionary measures against official price regulation.
