One of the striking photos that will characterize this year’s closing is a commercial alliance, to be announced this Friday, between the Fuegian producer mirgor Y Argentine airlines. It is much more than just contracting services, as it has enough volume to drive airlines reopen its corporate division of cargo aircraftafter 16 years.

Furthermore, the alliance strikes politically, given who will sit down to sign the contract: on the one hand, a company that had Mauricio Macri among its founders. And on the other one of the state-owned companies which is in the hands of the group La Camporà.

The agreement provides that Aerolíneas Argentinas will carry cargo operated by Mirgor from Tierra del Fuego, at an average rate of 12 hours a day, equivalent to two round trips.

To meet this obligation, Aerolíneas is negotiating the charter of two Boeing 737-800 freighterswith 22 tons capacity.

The contract is giving impetus to a business that Aerolíneas has never fully developed, loadbut which since the pandemic and with planes without passengers for nine months, has had a nascent development

The state-owned airline is preparing to close out another year with multimillion-dollar losseswhich will result in at least 330 million dollars contributed by the State to support its activity, although the Sitio del Ciudadano portal claims from the Ministry of Economy that these contributions already equal to 574 million dollars in the first 11 months of 2022.

Paul Cerianithe president of Aerolíneas who answers politically to the national senator and leader of La Cámpora Mariano Recaldecelebrated the deal with Mirgor from his Twitter account.

“From the agreement signed today, the national airline will carry out cargo logistics operations of the Mirgor companywhich allows us to incorporate two B737-800 cargo planes,” Ceriani said.

“We need two planes to be able to guarantee the continuous supplywithout interruptions due to technical defects or maintenance activities”, Aerolíneas sources said. “The next step will be to sell the cargo service to other companies, with the hours of inactivity that these two teams will stay,” they added.

Mirgor is the main national household appliance group: it ships televisions and mobile phones from Tierra del Fuego SAMSUNGhome and car air conditioners and audio equipment for Toyota pickups.

It also has a plant in Escobar, where it announced last week that it will start making equipment for Consumer electronics.

But the connection with the Fuegian island is the fulcrum of the new contract with Airlines: every day Mirgor moves almost a dozen trucks between Buenos Aires and Tierra del Fuego (between 2,500 and 3,000 a year) and the new “airlift” would aim to cover by air, in three hours per section instead of three dayssome of that logistics.

Today Mirgor SACIFIA is controlled by the family understoodthrough the IlTevere company, with 48% of the shares, and 52% listed on the Stock Exchange: 30% in the hands of individual shareholders and 22% in the hands of Anses.

The company was founded by Nicolás Caputo in 1983, who joined Maurizio Macri for the production of car air conditioners. By now the Macri already owned ArgentinaFiat and Peugeot licensee which has concentrated over 40% of local car production in the early 90s.

The Macri family has ceased to be a shareholder in Mirgor since 1994 and Nicolás Caputo is not even the most important individual shareholder, according to the CEO of Mirgor, Jose Luis Alonso, to the newspaper El Cronista. But the company It remains under the control of the Caputo family.
