Less than 48 hours after the massive blackout of Edesur which hit the southern neighborhoods of Buenos Aires a few minutes after the new year, the controller of the National Electricity Regulatory Agency, Walter Martello, surprised by the statements about the possible repurchase by the state of the company of a privatized service. The official does not rule it out the state takes over the companywhich weeks ago announced its intention to withdraw from the country and put the shares and assets it owns in Argentina up for sale.

“It is possible that most of the shares will be bought by the state”, relieved the official and leader of the Renewal Front who took office just four months ago, at the same time that Sergio Massa took over the economy ministry and ousted ultra-Kirchner officials from energy-related organizations.

Talking with AM530Martello recalled raising the possibility of that the energy service is again provided by the State. Part of the concession is in the hands of Edesur, of which it is the parent company the Italian Enel.

Martello also recalled that there is a bill presented by the Senator Oscar Parrilli, A few days after the announcement of Enel’s exit from the country, for a handful of provinces hydroelectric plants whose concessions will expire between 2023 and 2029.

Among the plants that appear in Cristina Kirchner’s Ladero project is the Chocón, managed today by Enel and whose concession expires in the coming months. Parrilli’s intention is for them to be managed by the public energy company Enarsa.

“It’s something I personally brought up in my previous role as Ombudsman of the Province of Buenos Aires, I raised the nationalization of the company. Politics should then discuss the issue of resources”, Held.

Along the same lines, he launched: “Clearly it is possible that most of the shares will be bought by the state and beyond my personal opinion, it seems to me that it is something that we should analyze”.

“It is a company that was privatized 30 years ago, it still has 70 concessions, that is 99 years. If you analyze his entire career It has never been effective and efficient to give us quality service“, He added.

Italian holding company Enel announced in mid-November that it will put its stake in Edesur up for sale; the El Chocón hydroelectric plant, and the CTM and TESA transmission lines (which connect the electrical systems between Brazil and northeastern Argentina) and Yacylec (transports energy from Yacyretá).

New in development.
