While Sergio Massa assured that nationwide inflation in December was below 5% on the basis of Economic Planning data, the Statistics and Census Directorate of the City of Buenos Aires reported that the average price increase (IPCBA) last month was 5.8%, a percentage similar to that of November. And that 2022 ended with inflation of 93.4%. INDEC data will be released on Thursday.
The differences in the measurements respond to the fact that consumption baskets and weightings differ that each product or service has in the general index according to the regions and in the national legal system.
According to Buenos Aires management, several key items ended last year with triple-digit inflation.
It is the case of Food with 101%, vegetables stand out with 150.4%, oils with 127.6% and fruit with 124%. Mashed potato Clothing and Footwear with 113.1%, clothing stands out with 120.5%. Restaurants and hotels with 108.2%; Education 105.4% and Prepaid with 100.8%.
The prices of meat and derivatives, on the other hand, with a strong incidence in the general index, they had a 72.3% increase helping to prevent the price index from rising further.
Regulated goods and services, on the other hand, after growing by 7.1%, accumulated an increase of 110.9% during the year, “the increase in hotel rates should be noted, together with the increases in the prices of clothing and vegetables.
Meanwhile, “during the month of December the change in the IPCBA basically responded to the increases in the following divisions: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuelsRestaurants and hotels, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, Healthcare and Domestic equipment and maintenance, which together contributed 67.6% to the increase in the General Level”.
By chapters, the major increases included:
+ Restaurants and hotels: recorded an average increase of 9.0%, due to the increase in the prices of food prepared in restaurants, bars and trattorias, together with the increases in the rates for hotel accommodation services for tourism purposes.
+ Home equipment and maintenance: recorded an increase of 6.7%, due to the impact of salary increases for domestic service personnel. The increases in the values of large household appliances and household appliances follow in importance.
+ Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: increased by 6.3% due to increases in the values of condominium expenses and rents. To a lesser extent, the price increases for home repair services stand out.
+ Foodstuffs and soft drinks recorded an increase of 4.7%. Within the division, the main impulses came from Bread and cereals (5.0%), Milk, dairy products and eggs (4.2%) and Vegetables, tubers and legumes (6.8%).
+ Health increased by 6.3%, due to the increase in prepaid drug shares and, to a lesser extent, drug price adjustments.
However, the prices of cuts of meat increased by only 1.9%.
