“This phase, which began in June-July after a great turbulence, was a reformatting phase. The president stepped aside, a silent guide from the vice president appeared, and the CEO of the company appeared. this phase, which is completed“said the economist during an interview with Radio Cnn.

The economist referred to the fact that the government has accumulated months of low inflation since the peak of 7.4% recorded in July by the consumer price index.

It seemed that this inertia would continue and it was hoped that the sub-4% horizon proposed by Minister Sergio Massa for April would be reached, but the December measurement once again turned on the red lights on the economy dashboard.

One of the tools implemented by the Ministry of the Economy to control inflation was the launch of the Fair pricing schedulethrough which companies agreed to maintain the prices of hundreds of consumer products.

Melconian criticized that policy, calling it “little”because it does not attack the inflation problem at its root, and has called for more effective solutions.

They are postponing inflation. When the exchange rate isn’t recycled, it’s inflation. When you have to send the truckers… Do you think the truckers will go to the supermarkets…?” the economist pointed out vehemently.

“Believe what fiscal and monetary macroeconomics does Five dudes will defuse it by hanging out in a supermarket? Which lasts two days, three days, five. Nothing more, “he added, in relation to the presence of Truckers union members in the distribution centers of large retailers,

Likewise, in a message to both the governing and opposition parties and thinking about this year’s presidential elections, he noted that “we need to get out of urgent electoral speculation”, and underlined that “the government is abusing this stage of apparent stability to get through August”.

“If the inflationary miracle gives a month 4%, that doesn’t solve inflation. But not because 4 is a lot. It’s just that solving inflation does not just mean lowering it, but making it sustainable over time. And here this is embarrassing, because they want to see if they have two months of trout to show before August, let’s see if they have raised their sights in August”, added the economist.

“We are not faced with any economic programme, we are not faced with any solution to the problem“, he summed up.

The former president of Banco Nación insisted that “all the decisions of this government postpone inflation”, and left some advice for who will win the next presidential elections: “The guy who comes and wants to solve this problem must start to recycle what’s still getting dark now.”

“You have to tell Argentine society that structural reforms are for it, not against it. Those who are reconsidered are those who work with the missing structural reforms. You have to tell people not to stuff their heads because the adjustment is coming,” she concluded.
