The main oil company in the country YPF added to the 4% increase. in CABA fuels, it goes up with what Shell made a point a day earlier and then Axion also joined. However, inside, some marks achieved adjustments of up to over 9%.
The cost of fuels is mainly made up of the evolution of the international oil price, the local price of biofuels, the exchange rate and the tax component.
At the end of November the Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, announced a agreement with oil companies for fuels to participate in the Fair Prices programme with increases monthly up to 4% from December to March of this year.
The increase agreed for January, the companies have accepted the 4% increase. be applied from January 15, in order to avoid a greater inflationary impact at the beginning of the year.
Despite the agreed percentage, the reality is that the increase is not even throughout the country, there is a great dispersion of prices in the different cities of Argentina. Thus, the lowest values, logically, are recorded in the south of the country, where there are fewer taxes. And the highest, however, occur in the north.
“We are seeing that in the Argentine north-east fuel price agreements are not respected, and it is logical”, explained to Clarín, Jeremías Morlandi, Director of Public Policies of the Center for Economic Studies Argentina XXI (CEEAXXI).
In that sense, he added: “The international price, devaluation, inflation of logistics costs and the same taxes on fuel are forcing companies to increase gasoline.”
The specialist explained that in the case of interiors “the logistical cost is crucial. Transporting fuel to Buenos Aires is not the same as transporting it to Misiones”. This is how in provinces such as Formosa, Corrientes, Chaco or Misiones, the adjustment reached an increase of 9%..
“Argentina has great potential in terms of energy, but national production, despite being at high levels, still does not cover demand. The amount it lacks to unleash its potential, both at Vaca Muerta and in future fields, it is blocked by internal difficulties ranging from tax burden to high regulation”, explained Morlandi.
