Clarín visited several butcher shops in three neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. I am seeking the opinion of the merchants regarding the government’s 10% discount plan on the purchase of up to $10,000 of beef. Opinions differ.
Mouth district
At the La Boca branch of the Res chain, one of the main ones in the sector, they explained to us that they will apply the discount, that although they are not doing it yet, “The idea is to be able to discount your customers the 10% announced by the government”, because the chains get the meat directly from the refrigerator which is part of the discount program.
Constitution District
The scenario is different, as customers “buy the day”, according to a trader. They also pay differently. are operated with cash. In turn, in these butcher shops they buy from intermediaries. “We don’t have the possibility to negotiate with the distributor the price at which half of the beef falls”
The businessman from Calle Presidente Luis Sáenz Peña al 500, owner of the butcher shop, explained to us: “We won’t do the discount, because that discount is for those who load by card and we can’t work like thisFirst, because most of the people who buy from us every day don’t have cards.”
With cheaper prices than those observed in La Boca, the butchers referred to the economic situation that the sector is going through: “They want to play politics with us, but if you look, we are getting worse every time. Before there were four of us participating, now there are two“, underlined the owner of the local Saénz Peña street. And he added that in thirty years at the helm of a butcher shop, “You’ve never seen price hikes in January, they usually happen in March.”
Balvanera district
In Calle Rincón at 100 and when the owner of the butcher shop was asked about the means of payment you work withwe referred to the card as something that only other products. “You pay for meat in cash because you pay in cash, otherwise they don’t unload anything from the truck.”
In this neighborhood, butchers do not plan to apply the discount because they believe the price they have on the blackboard “is low enough”, clarified the owner of the place. “It is important to go and see the big chains which now have a price and before applying the discount they automatically raise their prices, they never lose, but surely when they go out to check they will come to the small butchers”, he underlined. .
