Gaston Perez Izquierdo, CEO of the Catena Zapata winery in the last twenty years, surprised by publicly announcing that he is leaving his position. She did this through a post on his personal Instagram account and a letter she submitted to the company.
“After 20 years, I have decided to retire from the position of CEO of the winery that I love. Working with Nicolás Catena has been a unique and unforgettable cycle and never-ending learning,” said Pérez Izquierdo, who led the company’s business for a period international expansion in which the brand consolidated its leadership in high-end wine segment.
“I take all kinds of memories and anecdotes from these years. It was twenty years a country that forces you to always stay in the ring with your guard up. I am retiring having fulfilled the mandate that the company gave me in 2002, when the century had just begun “, were other words that Pérez left for his farewell on the net, which he closed with a thank you.
The challenges of running a company in Argentina
In the letter with which he greeted the winery and which has been disclosed in the last few hours, Pérez Izquierdo also highlighted some of the lessons learned from his managementin addition to the challenges that the industry has faced in Argentina.
“At home, in our beloved and unstable Argentina, I’ve always tried to ‘surf the wave’ in the best possible way: price controls, from export to import, exchange delays, sudden devaluations, inflation and the list goes on. But the goal has always been clear: to never lose the leadership of our brands in the market and increase it,” he says.
Of his mentor, Nicolás Catena, he says that working with him was “a real privilege” and who taught him “to think better, to see that everything can always be given an extra twist. To never stay with the first idea, to meditate on it and then go back to wondering”, among other things. For this he describes him as “a great motivator”.
