In this way, the Minister of Agriculture has tried to put an end to the speculation that had arisen about the possibility of a new edition of the soybean dollar, whose exceptional liquidation mechanism was applied in September and December of last year, strengthened due to the decline in reserves . of the Central Bank.

Amid a persistent reserve trickle, the central bank this week carried out its largest single-day sale of dollars since late 2021. The agency had to part with $292 million in the foreign exchange market, of which almost 90% corresponded to advance payments for energy imports.

As Bahillo explained, the impact of the Drought generated “a first loss” in crops and exemplified: “We have gone from 22 million tons to 13.4 million tons in the case of wheat.”

“We are cautious regarding the estimate in monetary terms. We have to see how the crops evolve and also the prices, because there could be some compensation there, but undoubtedly we will not have the volumes we had in previous years. This is undeniable. Also the drought it has hit farmers and dairy farmers hard,” he explained.

In this framework, the Minister of Agriculture said that, on the part of the government, “they will ensure that the volumes of the grain harvest can meet domestic demand”. In this regard, the official drew a graph: “In the grain, of the 13.4 million [cosechados]about 6.5 million go to the domestic market and exporters’ commitments about 5 million”.

“Even with this number, which is a little more austere in terms of volume of grain, it is possible to respect the commitments of the domestic and foreign markets, lacking an exportable balance. If there were more, we would export more”. concluded.
