The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massasent a message to the countryside after learning of the producers’ assembly promoted by the Argentine Agricultural Federation, which in recent days has united several entities.
“I want to leave a message to the producers and our very important production chain. We are facing one of the worst droughts in 100 years, with low soil moisture already accumulated over the past three years. We also have to face a particularity, such as the 7 de oro, a product of drought and which affects many animals, we have to face a drop in weight in animals for slaughter, we have to face the possibility of protecting ourselves from the case of mad cows that began to appear in Brazil, as well as dealing with bird flu. We have extraordinary conditions at a particular time where the world needs Argentinian protein and we have huge opportunities to grow by supplying the domestic market,” Massa said during the announcement of bird flu measures on Tuesday.
In this sense, the official remarked, “the work between the Government, the Provinces and the producers is fundamental, to be united and Let’s work together to ensure that we have the best performance and to be able to face these phenomena with the maximum strength and fluidity of information”.
The Argentine Agricultural Federation (FAA) has convened an assembly to analyze the situation and bring concrete requests to the national government, next February 28th in the access to the city of Santa Fe of Villa Constitución. The tender has already received the adhesion of the Argentine Rural Society (SRA), the Argentine Association of Agricultural Producers (AAPA) and today the Argentine Rural Confederations (CRA) have joined.
“The relationship with the Government is one of dialogue, but clearly we don’t have the answers that the productive sector needs. It is a sterile dialogue because it does not lead to any specification of tools, even in the short term. The idea is to question the government of course, but also the entire political class,” said FAA president Carlos Achetoni.
The decision to go back on the road, taken a few days ago during an FAA assembly, seeks answers to the producers’ discontent “not having a solution in terms of exchange parity, withholdings, lack of multi-risk insurance”.
“We agree on the reasons invoked by this mobilization and we will participate in it with all those producers who feel that their present is unsustainable and that they deserve a completely different horizon. The situation is critical and the governments of the three levels of the state must respond to every affirmation and concrete solutions to resolve this crisis”, said the CRA by joining the protest.
for his part Nicholas Pine, president of the Argentine Rural Society (SRA) said the body also supports the assembly convened by the FAA. “From our entity we will participate in the initiative called as we have done in all assemblies. Accompanying and listening to producers is nothing extraordinary for us,” he said. And then he added: “The situation is becoming increasingly critical and the national, provincial and municipal administrations must respond to every request and certain solutions to resolve this crisis. We need not only measures for the situation but also changes in the context such as the elimination of withholding taxes and exchange differences”.
