The Metropolitan Airport already functions as a departure gate not only for flights to local destinations and countries in the region, but also to any destination in the world by foreign airlines whose planes land in the capital.

This option has been used since the beginning of the year by the airline LATAMwhich offers connections to more than 100 destinations for flights departing from the metropolitan airport a Santiago de Chile, Lima and Sao Paulo.

Now the Brazilian airline will join OBJECTIVE, which has announced that it will “soon” start selling international connections for its flights between Aeroparque and Brazil. GOL flights arrive at the Aeroparque from Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis and above all from St. Paul.

For three years, the government had limited the possibility of using the Aeroparque for international flights to destinations only “dot by dot” with neighboring countries and some regional destinations, e.g Limes OR Bogota. If a passenger wishes to take a connecting flight to another international destination, such as Europe or the United States, I had to leave from Ezeiza.

This limitation was established by art Administration of the National Civil Administration (ANAC) in February 2020, even before the pandemic. According to the organization, it was after deciding that Aeroparque would start work on returning to having an international sector, “unknown from the point of view of this Aeronautical Authority, the skill level for international arrivals and departures that he may own once the works are completed”.

The truth is that on December 31, the ANAC published resolution 744 with which it repealed article 3 which limited the scope of international flights.

“Based on the latest reports of weekly capacity received from the Regulatory Body of the National Airport System (ORSNA), it was concluded that it is possible to promote a regulatory change”, justified the body chaired by the Hon. Paola Tamburrelli.

The reasons for the resolution also offer a description of how the political hierarchy within the commercial airline system: ORSNA, from where the approval to the new international flights, responds politically to the national senator and leader of the Cámpora Mariano Recalde.

Outside of that text was another political issue tipping the scales: the pressure from international airlines to get conditions of reciprocity, without restrictions at airports.

From that resolution the first to take advantage of the new regulations was LATAM. The airline run by the Chilean family Cuetotogether with its international partners Delta Airlines and Qatar Airwaysclosed its branch in 2020 LATAM Argentina but keeps its international flights very active from its C branchesChile, Brazil and Peruincluding several flights arriving at the Aeroparque.

Currently, LATAM offers approximately four daily flights from Aeroparque to St. Paul and at least one verse Santiago de Chilehey another verse Limes. In the three destinations, from 1 January, passengers can make international connections.

In case of OBJECTIVEIt is also , the Brazilian airline that has become the first among the regional “low cost” airlines Strategic partner of airlineswith which it has agreements shared code: They share a system and one of them can sell tickets for the other.

GOL has just appointed the Argentinian and former director of IMPROTUR Marcellus Costa as the country’s new commercial director, to give more impetus to an already intense traffic: every day, only at the Aeroparque, some four flights GOAL from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis. In partnership with Aerolíneas, it operates a San Pablo-Buenos Aires air bridge from seven flights a day.

The airline which also has bases in Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosarioconfirmed that it will “soon” start offering flights from Aeroparque to more international destinations, with connections in Brazil.

There are other international airlines landing at the Metropolitan Airport, such as Paranair (of the Amaszonas group), Sky (by Holger Paulmann, nephew of the owner of Jumbo) e Avianca (the latter, in the midst of a merger process with Gol).

At the moment, Aeroparque’s international flights are ongoing 30 a dayof which the half plus one they are from Aerolíneas Argentinas and the rest are distributed among other international airlines. It would not be surprising if, with the new regulations, the demand for more direct flights from these companies starts to grow at the expense of Ezeiza airport.
