In a context of 100% inflation which obscures the purchasing power of wages, the need for family income imposes itself more strongly. This is an online survey conducted by Randstad’s human resources consultancy among 1,510 people actively seeking employment. The survey reveals, among other things, that “in a context of uncertainty about the direction of the economy, there is evidence a greater participation of unemployed among candidates in active search”.

Thus, while in February 2022 the percentage of unemployed among job seekers was 50%, in February of this year it rose to 53%.

On these results, Andrea Ávila, CEO of Randstad for Argentina and Uruguay, explains: “In general, the beginning of the year is a time when many people reflect on their life and professional goals and can feel motivated to give career breakthrough,” he says.

On the other hand, during the first quarter companies reactivate personnel searches which they had to postpone due to the hyperactivity they usually have around the end of the year and because of the holidays. “This drives up vacancies right now and generates a perception of more opportunities available in the job market,” she clarifies.

Comparing these values with those of February 2022, it appears that the participation of candidates in active research they have those unemployed for more than 1 year increased by 14 points. An indicator that must be looked at carefully because it shows a possible contraction in the demand for work, warn the company.

Among the unemployed respondents, the study asked how long they have been unemployed. 32% had been unemployed for more than 1 year33% less than 3 months, 21% between 3 and 6 months and the remaining 14% between 6 months and 1 year.

According to these data, despite a global economy that foresees a contraction scenario and a local context with further complications deriving from inflation, the demand for labor has maintained a solid trend.

“The expectation today is for the global economy to stabilize and rebound, inflation levels to fall, all of which allow companies to raise their productivity and income levels, resulting in more formal and registered employment generation,” he added. Ávila.

The study deepened the analysis on the main reasons that push Argentine workers, who, despite already having a job, are trying to change jobs. In this sense, the main factors are getting better contractual conditions (Four five%); professional career ambitions (18%); personal wishes for change (17%); organizational causes (3%) and, finally, dissatisfaction with the employer (3%).

“After the great changes that the pandemic has definitively established in the world of work, such as remote work, for objectives and with much more flexible forms, it is completely natural that workers aspire to jobs that are more suited to their needs and their desires , always aiming to achieve a better work-life balance,” added the Randstad board.
