Despegar, one of Argentina’s unicorns, announced a restructuring of its leadership and his action failed up to 12% on Wall Street. It’s the worst drop in four months.
The online travel and tourism company reported on Friday that Alberto López Gaffney will cease to be the group’s chief financial officer (CFO), after submitting his resignation on March 17.
“The company’s board has begun looking for a new CFO,” the company said, implying the manager’s departure took them by surprise. María Bettina Zubin has been appointed head of finance for the company on an interim basis.
“Zubin has been Despegar’s controller since 2018 and has nearly 30 years of accounting and finance experience in senior positions across a large number of companies,” Despegar said in a statement. The manager is a UBA accountant and has an MBA from CEMA.
In the note, Despegar CEO Damian Scokin thanked López Gaffney for his contributions over the past four years, especially during the crisis caused by the pandemic. He “he Leaves the company in a very strong position and will remain available to ensure a smooth transition.”
Despegar has not yet released its full-year results for 2022. It will do so on March 16, before the market opens.
The company also has the Best Day, Viajes Falabella, ViajaNet, Stays and Koin brands and is the leading travel agency in the region, with operations in 20 countries.
