In February, annual inflation in Buenos Aires rose to triple digits: 103.1%

In February, due to the skyrocketing price of meat and derivatives (15.2%) and the new increase in fruit prices (11.3%), the average inflation in the city of Buenos Aires was 6%. Therefore, it accumulates 13.7% in the first two months of 2023 and 103.1% compared to February 2022, according to the Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the city of Buenos Aires.

With this record, year-on-year inflation in Buenos Aires exceeded double digits (in January it was 99.4%) to add 3.7 points in just one month and reach the 103.1%

If increases in seasonal and regulated products are excluded, so-called core inflation in the City recorded an average increase of 6.8%.

In January-February, in just 2 months, the price of meat and derivatives increased by 20.8% and fruit by 26.5%.

In February, the price increases were widespread. In the food sector, mainly meat, bakery, dairy and fruit products. To a lesser extent, the increases in the values ​​of clothing, automobiles, fuels and lubricants for motor vehicles for domestic use, medicines and personal care products stand out.

In Services mainly due to increases in the values ​​of condominium expenses, the prices of restaurants, bars and refreshment houses, rents and advance medical fees. Also due to increases in the residential rate for the electricity service, in the values ​​of tourist packages and in the remuneration of domestic service personnel.

According to the Buenos Aires management report; Food and non-alcoholic beverages saw an average increase of 7.7%. Within the division, the biggest boost came from Meats and Derivatives (15.2%). To a lesser extent, the increases in bread and cereals (5.7%), milk, dairy products (6.3%) and fruit (11.3%) stand out.

In this category, fruits stand out as having amassed a 141% year-over-year increase, followed by oils, butter and fats with 132.9%. In the case of restaurants and hotels, the increase was 5.9%, as a result of the price increases of food prepared in restaurants, bars and trattorias.

In the case of healthcare there is an increase of 6.8%.mainly impacting on increases in prepaid medicines and, to a lesser extent, on adjustments in the values ​​of medicines.

In the recreation and culture category, an increase of 8.7% for the increase in the prices of tourist packages and recreational and sports services. Compared to February 2022, package tours increased by 158.5%.
