The Argentine branch of Ford will continue to be a member of the small group of companies that produce or assemble engines in the country. So the leaders of the car manufacturer communicated to the minister Sergio Massa.
Ford is concluding an investment of 650 million dollars at its General Pacheco plant to launch the new version of the pick up this year Rangersbased on success Raptor Ranger from the United States.
Ford executives, led by their regional boss, david rightand the president of the local branch, Martino Galdeanomet Massa and part of his team on Monday, at the Palacio de Hacienda, and detailed it US $80 million of that investment they will be used to equip the engine assembly plant for the new Ranger.
“One of our goals is to achieve the broadest possible integration of local and regional auto parts in a competitive and efficient manner,” said Galdeano.
The new Ranger is slated for launch in the second half of this year, with local engine assembly to follow from 2024, detailed managers.
One of the statements of both local auto parts industries as of Mechanical union (SMATA) is to ensure that vehicles assembled in the country have a greater integration of local parties. An important piece of information was the presence of the holder of SMATA, Ricardo Pignanelliat the economics conference.
there are only six factories producing vehicle engines in the country. Ford is already part of that small group, as it assembles the 2.2 and 3.0 engines of the current Ranger (47,000 in 2022).
The company showing the highest level of integration is not an automobile company but an agricultural machinery manufacturer, John Deerewhich in 2022 produced 25,000 engines of its 350 and 450 series.
Other manufacturers produce their engines in the manner known as CKD, with parts arriving as part of a completely disassembled “kit”. Although they usually have a low integrationn of local parts, they require important machinery for their assembly.
“This investment by Ford it is very positive and it is an opportunity to locate more parts in later stages,” said the general manager of the Auto Component Manufacturers Association (AFAC), John Cantarelli.
The other engine manufacturers are Iveco Argentinawhich in 2022 assembled 30,000 engines for trucks and agricultural machinery.
The one that contributes to the greatest volume is toyota argentina (110,000 motors in 2022), with local integration that for the moment includes cables, plastic parts and support.
Two other terminals participate in this activity: General Motors (built 23,000 engines for the Chevrolet Cruze last year) and Mercedesbenzwith 15,000 engines for its Sprinter utility.
