The spirits of agricultural producers have been hit hard by the severe drought which continues to lower crop estimates and by what they see as a lack of government support in this critical situation.

In this context, the president of the Agricultural Federation (FAA) Carlos Achetoni has promised to organize a major complaint if there are no announcements relevant to the sector.

It would be a question of upping the ante after the assembly convened by Achetoni himself on February 28 at Villa Constitución, south of Santa Fe. On that occasion, the participation of producers was low and the criticisms were more for the representation of the sector itself than for the government. Relations within the liaison table became tense and the representativeness of that space has lost a few more points, and now the bodies’ representatives are faced with the challenge of reorganizing and giving voice to a sector that no longer knows who to blame for its ills and who to ask for help.

We will prepare a strong mobilization, seeing how the reaction of the producers is and that the bases come out to express themselves. The mobilization we try to agree with each entity. We don’t know if it will be a direct mobilization or if there will be an escalation to arrive at a mobilization in the federal capital, in Congress and in search of all political sectors in the Plaza de Mayo,” Achetoni said in a radio dialogue.

Meanwhile, the Liaison Desk released a statement a few days ago stating that “Drought continues to hit producers across the country, with a heat wave and lack of rain that seems to never end, with great concern because it is not yet known how they will recover from the effects of frost and hail, so the situation becomes suffocating for everyone.

Last week the Central Bank extended its Notice to 7600, which it makes financial credit more expensive for producers who own more than 5% of soybeans. “This measure not only goes against what was announced by the national government in relation to emergency support for producers. It is an open and brutal attack against all producers who have in their possession some residue of soybeans for their own consumption , pay the rents, the contributions and support the peasant roots”, said the Liaison Table.

This Monday the self-convened producers of San Nicolás, Ramallo and Pergamino met at the intersection of the 188 road and the road to La Violeta, in the town of Guerrico in Buenos Aires. And they asked for the Elimination of export duties (withholding taxes), exchange rate unification and market intervention remedies, to restore the viability of the activity in the next campaign.

In turn, they have asked the government for at least three years of subsidized credit lines with a grace period to meet their commitments and face the next electoral campaign.

“Given that today the deadline established by the Connection Table has expired, a state of alert with the possibility of returning to the routes has been questioned”, the self-convened producers remarked in a statement.
