In a global survey, the more than 700 participating Argentine employers reported a 16% increase in the Net Employment Outlook (ENE) seasonally adjusted. This implies an increase of five percentage points compared to the first quarter of the year, according to a survey by ManpowerGroup which refers to the April-June period.
The results reveal it 37% of employers surveyed plan to increase staff, 19% decrease them, 39% do not expect to make any changes and the remaining 5% do not know if they will make them in the observed period.
The Employment Expectation (ENE) value is obtained by taking the percentage of employers who expect to increase their workforce and subtracting the percentage of those who expect a decline in the next quarter.
“Although the second quarter of the year will continue to be characterized by an adverse macroeconomic environment, as well as the uncertainties of an election year, A slight rebound is expected from contraction expectations, mainly driven by the Communication Services, Energy and Utilities sector”. reflects Luis Guastini, CEO of ManpowerGroup Argentina.
And he adds: “However, in the regional comparison, Argentina’s results continue to be the weakest”.
In the nine economic activities examined, employers expect to increase their payrolls during the second quarter of 2023. The communication services sector leads this trend, with an ENE of 36%, followed by energy and utilities with 27 % and transport, logistics and automotive with 21%.
Who reports hiring expectations the weakest are Industries and Materials with an ENE of 12%, followed by Health and Life Sciences reflecting an ENE of 14%.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, Hiring intentions strengthen in six of nine industry sectors. Energy and Utilities show the largest change, up 27 percentage points, followed by Consumer Goods and Services, up 17 percentage points.
Conversely, Finance and Real Estate show an ENE weakened by 3 percentage points in the year-on-year comparison, followed by Industries and Materials, with a decrease of 2 points.
In the six regions of the country surveyed, employers expect to increase their payrolls during the second quarter of 2023. Patagonia leads this trend, with an ENE of 32%, followed by Pampeanawith an ENE of 22%, while NOA shows the weakest hiring expectations, revealing an ENE of 0%.
Compared to the previous period, recruitment intentions increased in three of the six regions. Patagonia leads this trend with an increase of 30 percentage points, followed by the Pampea region, with an improvement of 8 points, and AMBA, with 7 percentage points.
In a year-on-year comparison, expectations decrease in three of the six regions. The largest decline is found in NOA with 21 percentage points. The most significant increases in hiring intentions are observed in Patagonia and the Pampas region, with 16 and 9 percentage points, respectively.
When the data are assessed at the regional level, employers in the eleven countries surveyed expect increases in their hiring expectations for the second quarter of 2023.
Panama has the highest expectations in the region (41%), followed by Costa Rica (38%) and Guatemala (38%). On the contrary, Argentina is the country with the weakest expectations in the region (16%)followed by Brazil (21%) and Peru (23%).
Globally, employers expect to increase their payrolls in all 41 countries and territories surveyed.
