Among the price increases that continue to weigh on consumers’ pockets is that of transport. Starting April 1, public transportation fares in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) will have an increase of 6.7%. This is the second application of a new monthly price update formula which will apply until June and it is adjusted according to the inflation index for Greater Buenos Aires published by INDEC.
This percentage arises from the fact that the Ministry of Transport takes as a reference the Consumer Price Index (CPI) corresponding to February – which was 6.6% – to update the increases forecast for April. With which, the minimum bus ticket in the AMBA, which was until March $37.10, will drop to $39.58, and the train price will fluctuate between $19.22 and $24.88, according to the line
The correct updates for the inflation index were made official by the Government at the end of last year. As expected, this new monthly regime started to apply from March and this will be the case until December 2023 taking into account the general consumer price index of the Greater Buenos Aires region recorded by INDEC, which was 6.7% in February.
Then, the next increases will be fixed on the basis of the CPI of the previous two months. That is, the freight rates in May they will be adjusted with the index corresponding to March.
