Economy Minister Sergio Massa has decided to intervene “administrative” of Edesur. After a meeting with the undersecretary for energy, Flavia Royón, and the controller of Enre -Walter Martello-, an “administrative intervention will be supervise the provision of the service and the investment works”, according to official sources.
The mayor of Avellaneda, Jorge Ferraresi, who was also a minister in this administration, will be designated as “controller”. Although he is known for his adherence to the ranks of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchnerthe mayors of the southern suburbs have asked that “one of them” participate in Edesur’s decisions.
In constant tension with the current administration, Edesur’s intervention had been requested in recent weeks. High temperatures have left thousands of users without electricity in recent weeks. The municipalities of the southern conurbano (Avellaneda, Quilmes, Berazategui, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, Esteban Echeverría) were the most affected, apart from some neighborhoods of the city of Buenos Aires.
The government defined the measure after the more than 70,000 cuts recorded in the Amba last week. Against this background, the authorities detected “technical infractions” and the minister decided to advance this Monday in the “administrative intervention”, a measure that would not affect the company’s property or assets.
Edesur argued that the state violated the concession agreement. In it are Comprehensive Rate Reviews (RTI), which mean more revenue for distributors. The Alberto Fernández administration did not make them in 2020 and 2021.
“It is not an operational intervention, The company is still responsible for operations, supervising the provision of the service and monitoring the investment works”Economy ministry sources familiar with the announcement said.
The state already has a supervisor in the administration of the company. And the regulatory body (Enre) is conducting an audit, so the technicians in the company are about thirty.
