Javier Calamaro is an artist who is not just a rock fan. The passion for the culinary art, inherited from his family, also stands out. And after dabbling in a TV show where he cooks, now It has just launched its own olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the market. He did it with signatures Olivícola Laur and Acetaia Millán, respectively.
In the company, the investment is made by Calamaro and the Millán Family accompanies product development, brand image and bottling. Proceeds from sales go to the artist.
For now, one has been made first batch of 5,000 bottles of each product (the oil should be divided into 1/2 liter and the vinegar into 250 cc containers). Calamaro and Gabriel Guardia, general manager of Olivícola Laur, agreed to move forward with more options based on demand.
The Millán family owns other businesses in the country related to supermarkets and wineries. It owns Átomo Supermercados and the Los Toneles, Mosquita Muerta Wines, Fuego Blanco and Abrasado wineries. It also has the Casa Tapaus distillery, Carnes Millán, among other businesses.
One of the cellars is dedicated exclusively to the production of high-end wines. Meanwhile, the other three produce products in all price ranges. The Laur olive farm was founded in 1889 and produces more than 600 quintals (almost 1 million bottles of olive oil per year) through its brands Clásico Extra Virgin Organic, Blend de Terroir Cruz de Piedra Organic, Blend de Terroir Altos Limpios, Blend de Terroir Medrano, Gran Mendoza Premium, Contraviento and Gran Laur.
The company occupies the first place in the ranking of the 100 best olive producers in the world and is also one of the first in the local market. With its products it reaches China, Japan, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Brazil and the United States, among other countries.
For its part, Acetaia Millán is the only factory in Latin America certified by the Balsamic Vinegar Consortium of Modena, Italy. For several years he has been collaborating in the production of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for other artists, such as musicians and composers. Nito Mestre and Juanchi Baleirónlead singer of the band Los Pericos.
Now Javier Calamaro is joining the same initiative, with his brands Squid premium extra virgin olive oil and Squid premium balsamic vinegar.
The musician has a TV show called “The Squid Kitchen” which airs on Canal El Nueve on Sundays at noon, and was the kick-off for the olive oil and vinegar launch.
“We come from a family with a strong gastronomic culture and olive oil has always been essential in our house, which is why today producing our own oil and vinegar is much more than a brand on a label, it is a real own event,” says Javier Calamaro.
The oil is a blend of the Arauco and Arbequina olive varieties and is produced in Altos Limpios, Lavalle, Mendoza, Argentina. The balsamic vinegar comes from the Ugni Blanc variety, sourced from farms in the Valle de Uco, also in Mendoza, and is aged for one year, commented the manufacturing company in a note.
