Minimum wage increase: The Government has confirmed the new amounts and when they will be collected

In the midst of the rising inflation plaguing the country, the government on Tuesday confirmed the new amounts corresponding to the minimum, living and mobile wage, which rises by 26.6 percent in a quarter, and defined when they will be charged. Additionally, it signaled increases in the lows and highs of the unemployment benefits.

The provision was communicated with Resolution 5/2023, published in the latest issue of Legislative Decree Official bulletin with the signature of Raquel “Kelly” Olmoshead of the Ministry of Labour.

Specifically, it will rise by 15.6 percent from April, by 6 percent from May and, finally, by 5 percent in June. On July 15, members of the wage council will meet to discuss a new increase.

In this way, from April 1st 2023, “all monthly workers who complete the full statutory workday” will receive a minimum wage of $80,342while the day employees will reach the $401.71 per hour.

“From May 1st 2023, the minimum, vital and mobile salary is set $84,512 for all monthly workers completing the full working day, and in $422.56 At that time for day workers”, points out letter “b” of article 1.

The last increment will come on 1st of June: will be of 87,987 pesos for monthly workers e 439.94 pesos per hour for day workers.

In this way, the increase validated by the Casa Rosada is freed from the scheme of an annual increase of 60% or two six-monthly agreements of 30% that the Minister of the Economy intended, Sergio Massa, for parities in the private sector. Instead, it stands closer to the commitment of the unions who have begun negotiating their salaries under the quarterly settlement plan with a minimum 20% increase.

Unemployment benefits: new increases

Article 2 of the resolution lists the increases that will be applied to the minimum and maximum amounts of unemployment benefit. In particular, the advantages of Improve your work plan equal to half the minimum wage.

From 1st April the apartment will remain in $22,475.07while the ceiling will reach $39,125.12. The following month, starting May 1, both figures will increase to $24,440.33 AND $40,733.88 respectively.

The last of the three increases will be applied from 1 June: the minimum amount will increase to 24,440.33 pesoswhile the maximum will reach the 40,733.88 pesos.

At the end of last year, some offices of the Casa Rosada launched a plan to try to separate the Potenciar increase from the evolution of the minimum wage and activated the formation of the so-called Popular Economy Council, so that this body is in charge of fix the amount of this benefit.

Finally, this brand new council will meet for the first time on March 31, even if – due to the lack of specific legislation that allows it – it will not be able to advance in the definition of a possible increase.
