The Bridgestone tire factory, located in the city of Llavallol in Buenos Aires, will be the scene of a new strike by the SUTNA union following the Japanese capital company’s decision to lay off eight workers.
This is a new chapter in a recent conflict, different from the one that lasted five months last year. In this case, the dismissal of the eight workers, who according to the company were, was superimposed “with justification”, with a complaint from SUTNA for the poor working conditions inside the Bridgestone factory. Following this complaint, the Llavallol plant was inspected by personnel from the Ministry of Labor of Buenos Aires and Bridgestone was intimidated by this body to specify “improvements”.
From the Single Tire Union (SUTNA), they assured that the layoffs were underway retaliation for the complaint against the factory and with that slogan is the strike this Tuesday.
“We invite all colleagues to gather from 9 in front of the Bridgestone gates before the ratification of the dismissals presented by this employer (in default of Argentine labor legislation) in response to the ministerial injunctions for the very poor working conditions that predominate in the plant”, said the union, of which he is general secretary Alexander Crespo.
Bridgestone has denied the layoffs are related to another issue. “Our company policies have explicit rules on absenteeism and certain behaviors that can lead to disciplinary sanctions (…) Having exhausted all our efforts, and in accordance with the powers granted by law, Bridgestone Argentina was forced to apply necessary measures and fired a group of people recently,” the company said in a statement.
