The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March in the city of Buenos Aires it was 7.1% compared to Februarywith what in the last twelve months it has reached 105.5%informed the Directorate General of Statistics and Censuses of Buenos Aires this Wednesday.
The prominent note among the components of the CPI is given by the education category which, due to the seasonal nature of the beginning of the school year, recorded an increase of 23.2% and contributed 0.97 percentage points to the general level.
The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) will report the March consumer price index nationwide on Friday 14 July.
In the CABA six items explain 77.5% of the increase in the general level recorded in March: Food and soft drinks; Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; Education; Transport; Health and Clothing and Footwear.
Food and soft drinks, the category with the highest weighting, recorded an average increase of 9.1%, contributing 1.62 percentage points to the overall monthly change.
In this category the main impetus came from Meat and derivatives (12.6%), Milk, dairy products and eggs (10.1%), Bread and cereals (6.3%), Vegetables, tubers and legumes (11 .2%) and Fruit ( 10.9%).
Apparel & Footwear averaged a 10.1% increase and impacted 0.57 points, reflecting the division’s seasonal performance.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 6.3% and accounted for 1.12 points on the general index, mainly influenced by increases in rental prices, followed in order of importance by adjustments in expenditure values municipalities of the house, the increases in the residential rate of the water service and those of the natural gas network.
The Education category, for its part, recorded an average increase of 23.2% and accounted for 0.97 points, due to the increase in school fees with the start of the school year.
Transportation was up 6.3% and had an impact of 0.63 points, due to the update of car prices and taxi fares, which took effect on March 11, followed by increases in values of fuels and lubricants for vehicles for domestic use.
Healthcare increased by 6.9%, with an incidence of 0.59 percentage points, due to the adjustment of the quotas of prepaid medicines and, to a lesser extent, to increases in the prices of medicines.
According to the data released by the Municipality and based on the forecasts of private consultants, inflation for the month of March will be close to 7% nationwide.
For Ecolatina the record was 7.4%, while for the Libertad y Progreso Foundation it was 7.3% and for C&T Consultores it was 7%. For IPC Online de Bahía Blanca it was 8.3% and for LCG it was 6.7%.
Meanwhile, February inflation had already surprised by showing an increase higher than that estimated by all private consultants and that the Government had made known in the previous hours. The consumer price index recorded an increase of 6.6%. Thus, the interannual variation reached 102.5%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.
