The used vehicle sales in March demonstrated, once again, that small and affordable cars continue to be at the top of demand, with eThe Volkswagen Gol and the Chevrolet Corsa at the top of the rankings.
As reported by the Automotive Chamber of Commerce (CCA), in March there were 146,826 transfers of used vehiclesan increase of 4.69% compared to the same month of 2022.
They, in turn, were transferred for the cumulative year 391,483 units, up 3.11%. of 379,659 in the first quarter of 2022.
The purchase of vehicles such as valuable refuge showed itself once again in a market that rallied significantly in March after months of stagnation, despite the fact that it is a sector in which securities lending they are non-existent.
“The month of March ended with a significant increase in used car sales. But the financing offered by the market for the purchase of a used vehicle it is practically impossible for consumers’ pockets,” he said prince albertpresident of the CEC.
The model ranking shows that the best-selling used vehicles were Volkswagen Gol and Gol Trend (8,973 units), Chevrolet Corsa and Classic (4,809 units). Two Brazilian models who they are no longer producedgiven that the Corsa went out of production before the pandemic and the last Gol Trend was produced in the Taubaté (San Pablo) plant on December 23 last year.
The tendency of the Argentine market to favor small cars has not always been like this, given that until the end of the 90s there was a greater preponderance in the sales rankings of medium-sized car. But after the 2001/2002 crisis, buyers were more inclined towards small cars imported from Brazil, as the local automotive industry insisted in those years on the production of medium-sized cars for export.
An exception of the local industry during the first two decades of the century was the Renault Clio, produced in the Santa Isabel plant in Cordoba. The Clio was fourth best-selling model in March, with 3,809 units. It was followed by one of its historical competitors, the FordFiesta (Brazilian, also discontinued, since Ford of Brazil closed its plants), with 3,372 units.
In fifth place there was Fiat Palio (3,160 units), a medium/small one, which was mostly produced in Brazil, in the Betim plant (Minas Gerais), although both at the end of the 1990s and in the first half of the last decade it was also produced in the Cordovan factory of Ferreyra.
Seventh was the ford ecosport (3,091 units), a Brazilian vehicle which at its launch in 2003 represented a real innovation, as it combined the chassis of a small car (the Fiesta) with the bodywork of an SUV vehicle or, as they were called then, “4×4”. Other Ford brands, such as the Ka Brazilian (3,037 units) and the focus the one produced in General Pacheco (2,942 units) closed the ranking of the ten best-selling used cars last month.
The CEC ranking also reflects that buyers are looking for used models from collection farm-to-table versions of which sometimes take months to reach dealerships, or require the payment of significant premiums.
THE hilux toyotawith 4,492 units, it was the third best-selling used model in March, while the Ford Ranger (3.085) placed eighth.
