The warning from the World Economic Forum on the impact of artificial intelligence on jobs

The progress of artificial intelligence is scary. More if you think in terms of the labor market in terms of job destruction. In its latest report “The Future of Work”, the World Economic Forum (WEF) gives an account: the sector “It will experience major changes in the next five years.”

In this regard, the report states that Artificial Intelligence will have a destructive effect on jobs. The good part is that it will also lead to the creation of new job roles so far non-existent.

The report specifies that one in four jobs in the world will be radically transformed. “There’s no doubt the future of work will be disrupted. But it doesn’t have to be dystopian”indicate the conclusions of the WEF.

“Entrepreneurs predict that 23% of all jobs globally (i.e. a quarter) will change in the next five years”warns the document prepared by the World Economic Forum. And he adds: “This can be interpreted as a measure that constitutes a mixture of emerging jobs, added jobs and eliminated jobs”.

Against this background, projections indicate that in 45 economies, covering 673 million workers69 million new jobs are expected to be created and 83 million lost, representing a net decrease of 14 million jobs, i.e., 2% of current occupancy.

And not only will AI affect how the job market changes, it will also affect other technological advances and even climate change will be one factor.

The document underlines that the irruption of technology “has an effect notoriously since the Covid-19 pandemic, when the adoption of already available technologies has accelerated” to organize the production process. And warns that “the emergence of AI (Artificial Intelligence) with Chat GPT as the main figure, has raised fears that hundreds of jobs will become obsolete, especially some of those who were traditionally considered professionals or bourgeois.

“Internationally, technology is the largest job-losing area in the world,” the report said. and adds it “The greatest job losses are expected in administrative functions and the traditional functions of security, factory and trade.”

The organizations interviewed expect 26 million fewer jobs by 2027 in administrative and record keeping roles. These losses will mainly be due to digitization and automation.

What skills will employees need to acquire?

The top two skills needed for 2023 and beyond are cognitive: analytical thinking and creativity.

Resilience, flexibility and agility They are also basic skills to take into account, as well as the technological literacy, leadership and curiosity.

He creative thinking professionalism will grow the most over the next five years (73%), followed by analytical thinking (73%) and technological knowledge (68%).
